The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is a showcase for new gadgets, systems, and services early every year. It is a way to let people know what is unique, innovative, and coming to them soon. Demonstrations range from improvements on smart phones, to new products like smart watches, to new ways of delivering better streaming services. Currently, most streaming services exclude local programming and live events, and do not allow multiple devices to stream at the same time. That can get expensive for families, and limit access to services that are being paid for with a contractual commitment. Packages are limited, and tend to be only premium packages at costs that are rising.
Streaming movies, television, sports events, music, local channels, and live events has been given an update. VIDGO TV service, for example, made its debut at the 2016 CES in Las Vegas. The service allows customers to build their own packages, requires no professional installation, and can be paid on a month to month basis, with no contracts. The service includes local and live broadcasts, thousands of on-demand movie titles, and a lower cost. Other services utilize the same type of wireless devices, such as iOS, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, and Google Chromecast, and also offer high definition streaming, but limit usage, or may require professional installation. Mobile devices, such as smart phones, tablets, and laptops, can receive services as long as they are connected to the internet by 4G or high speed wireless services. Stationary devices, like desk top computers, regular television sets, and smart televisions, can also utilize streaming. All devices will have access to full programming at any time, so many devices can be used at once.
The addition of local channels to a streaming service is a great way for people to know about community events, local weather, and issues and breaking news that effect the town or city in which they live. That will also help family members who have relocated, those who travel on business, or college students who are away from home, still feel close to home. New services began in the beginning of the year in select markets, and has currently gone to wider markets.
